How Chiropractic Care Can Help Heal Your Body
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Heal Your Body
At Advanced Chiropractic, we celebrate that the body is a marvelous creation. Every 27 days, the skin completely remakes itself, and the body makes about 2 million new red blood cells per second. Within each of us is the remarkable ability to sustain life and health. The only thing we need to do is set up the proper conditions to make that happen. This is the goal of chiropractic care.
The brain, spinal cord, and rest of the nervous system work together to ensure the body functions optimally. The brain is the source of life-giving energy that powers every part of the body from the tiniest cell to a complex organ family such as the cardiovascular system.
The brain’s power needs a strong network of nerves to carry vital information down through the spinal cord and throughout the body’s tissues. When the spine is in proper alignment, the communication pathways are clear. A healthy spine helps our bodies to do what our brains deem necessary to preserve good health.
A Healthy Spine Needs To Be In Proper Alignment
The spine is designed for fluid, natural movement and to protect the nerves it encases. The 31 pairs of spinal nerves have essential functions in their corresponding body regions. Therefore, maintaining a healthy spine promotes good health throughout the body.
Everyone is excited when a baby learns to crawl or take those precious first steps, even though falling is a part of the process. Throughout life, we all have a multitude of unexpected falls, awkward bends, and other unhealthy movements for our spines. Poor habits such as looking downward at our smartphones or different screens for hours and sitting for 40 or more hours per week can also place the spine in unhealthy positions.
When the spine moves in unhealthy ways, it becomes misaligned. In our professional chiropractor’s community, we use the term “spinal subluxation” to describe this misalignment. “Subluxation” means a misalignment of the vertebrae, or bones that make up the spine.
How Spinal Subluxation Causes Whole-Body Health Problems
Although spinal subluxations can be painful, we’ve had many patients who are surprised to learn they have any spinal misalignment. Pain is not the major problem that results from subluxation. The primary issue with a spinal subluxation is the unhealthy pressure it places on the nerves. Since the nerves are constantly relaying information to and from the brain, a subluxation can interfere with the communication needed for movement, touch, digestion, and every major bodily function.
Spinal subluxation can cause conditions including:
● Migraine headaches
● Digestive issues
● And many more.
Chiropractors use many methods to coax the spine into optimal alignment. Our chiropractic team may use their hands or specialized instruments to apply targeted, gentle pressure to correct subluxations. These movements are called chiropractic adjustments. At our office, chiropractic doctors carefully evaluate each patient’s overall health and spine before prescribing an individualized chiropractic adjustments program.
Health Benefits of Regular Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic medicine offers a wealth of health benefits. Most people first consider coming to a chiropractor when they have pain from a car accident or a spine-centered health condition like scoliosis. Still, our chiropractors provide relief for a full range of painful conditions.
As fantastic as freedom from pain can feel, it is only the beginning of what care from a chiropractor has to offer. Restoring healthy spine alignment removes barriers to brain-body collaboration and restores the body’s optimal functioning. Never settle for barely making it through the day or merely appearing well to others. We’re genuinely grateful to have patients who tell us they awake each morning energized and looking forward to what life has to offer.
When patients partner with our team, they receive whole-person care. Adjustment for a healthy spine makes a profound difference in health. When patients follow the expert guidance we give on lifestyle choices, including nutrition, fitness, sleep, and stress management, we relish watching them achieve peak health.
Our healthy spine care team doesn’t quit once they help our patients make these excellent health choices. Each of us lives in the community, and the social ties we have are critical to thriving. In addition to social health, we also stress the importance of individual spiritual life choices since these have also been linked to improved health outcomes.
Chiropractic Care Boosts Quality of Life
Receiving routine healthy spine care from our team does more than improve our patients’ health. It gives them an improved quality of life. Quality of life includes optimal body functioning as a part of overall functioning and personal experience. The following vignettes reveal recent research findings that verify what our patients have been telling us for years.
Balance is something that we all take for granted until we have problems with it. Good balance is needed to walk, stand, and sit comfortably. It also reduces our risk of injury by helping us move more safely every day.
Each of our members of the armed forces needs an excellent sense of balance. Whether in combat, a covert operation, or managing highly sensitive information, our active-duty military personnel must have a body that works in harmony with the brain and the surrounding environment.
A recent study of 110 active U.S. Army members with low back pain demonstrates how chiropractic care can reduce back pain and improve function. The servicemen and women were divided into two groups. A chiropractor treated one group. The other group did nothing.
After one month of treatment from a chiropractor, the service members reported reduced pain. They also said back pain interfered less with their activities of daily living.
While less pain and more freedom are fantastic, the improvements in their function, including balance, were truly remarkable. The chiropractor visit group could use their back muscles to pull 10 lbs. more and had stronger trunk muscles. Individuals treated with chiropractic interventions were also able to balance on one leg with their eyes closed for longer than before treatment.
Restored Digestive Health
Optimal digestion is vital for us all, but it is critical for infants. A recent student of 7-month old twin boys who had undergone extensive intestinal surgery reveals how intervention from a chiropractor can restore digestive health. In this study, both boys received gentle adjustments to remove subluxations that were blocking intestinal functioning. After four or five weeks of twice-weekly treatments, the boys’ mother reported they both had regular bowel movements.
Enhanced Immune Function
Many studies have already shown us neuro-immune circuitry, or the connection between the nervous and immune systems. Nerve damage that often accompanies strokes and traumatic injuries reduces immune system function. This is because nerves control immune cell function. Damage to different areas of the spine causes different immune cells to malfunction. Brain and spinal cord damage further accelerate this decline in function.
Although this is still an exciting frontier of research, therapies that can stimulate, rehabilitate, and promote nerve connections show promise for restoring neuro-immune circuitry. Correcting subluxations with chiropractic care can give the spinal nerves a safer place to heal and function at their best. Improved spinal nerve function will bring better function to the entire body.
